What, pray tell, do we mean when we say Sarah Kate and Josh’s wedding was “at various locations”? Well, there was simply too much awesomeness to contain their wedding celebration to one venue. The weekend-long festivities, all of which were brilliantly orchestrated by Allison Wildes of Elegant Engagements, seemed to have everything. The one thing it didn’t have? A wedding ceremony. The happy couple arrived Stateside as mister and missus, having already tied the knot in Scotland.
The weekend began with a laidback welcome party at AutoCamp Cape Cod, a “glamping” site in Falmouth. Think Airstream and s’mores meets Restoration Hardware. Cool, right? Guests had the chance to catch up with the bride and groom and get to know each other as they enjoyed beer, wine and signature cocktails along with a raw bar from Sea State Foods, and gourmet pizzas and desserts from Pizza Barbone.
The next day was the main event. Actually, “events” is a more accurate description.
As the August sun began to soften, Sarah Kate and Josh’s loved ones gathered at Highfield Field Hall & Gardens, a truly unique Cape Cod wedding venue, also in Falmouth. Once the summer home of a wealthy Boston family, the Victorian-era mansion has been beautifully restored and is surrounded by acres of lush gardens.
The evening began with speeches and poems honoring the couple’s love shared by family and close friends during the cocktail hour, which included stationed and butlered hors d’oeuvres.
Following the cocktail hour, the party moved to the brick terrace adjacent to the mansion. Under a massive white tent was a wonderland of swoon-worthy florals and gorgeous décor details.
From the tent poles festooned with greenery to lavish centerpieces, bespoke stationery, baskets brimming with white flowers, and oversized woven light fixtures hanging from above, every darling detail was flawlessly executed.
One might think that after a decadent dinner savored at leisurely pace, cake and coffee would be served and dancing would begin. Not exactly. Well, not at this location.
As the “dinner party” portion of the reception came to an end, it was time for a venue change for the dessert and dancing party. So off everyone went to…wait for it…a garage! But this was no ordinary garage. It was more like an industrial-chic automobile museum.
The slick surfaces of the cars and the garage itself were bathed in brilliant blue light done by Ormonde Productions. Chiffon draping softened the edges and disco balls literally made the massive space sparkle.
Sprinkled throughout the space were tables draped in shimmery linens where guests could take a break from dancing and enjoy cake and coffee.
Why, you ask, were there three cakes? Because Sarah Kate and Josh are incredibly thoughtful. In addition to their wedding cake, there were two smaller cakes to honor the anniversaries of family members. Another thoughtful touch were the satin slippers provided so that no one need dance in high heels.
There were also some cheeky touches (read the napkin!).
Mindful that nonstop dancing can build an appetite, especially late at night, Josh and Sarah Kate offered their loved ones a late-night snack of cheeseburger sliders and tots.
And so, Sarah Kate and Josh’s wonderful wedding weekend came to a fabulous end. Or did it? Of course not! There was more food and fun on tap the following day, when a buffet brunch was served back at the “glamp” site.
A make-your-own bloody Mary station may have been a welcome sight for some of their guests, while the hearty breakfast was enjoyed by all, as was a donut hole bar. How cool is that for a brunch?
And that’s how you end a destination wedding weekend on Cape Cod on the very highest of notes!
