In early April, The Casual Gourmet celebrated its 40th year in business. Looking back, it is hard to believe that what began as a gourmet food shop in a small storefront in Centerville has grown into Cape Cod’s largest catering company, with dozens of employees creating memorable weddings and events for countless clients.

The events we have catered—and those we will continue to do through October—are incredibly meaningful to our team and to me personally. Playing a part in so many love stories and family celebrations has been an absolute pleasure.

As I contemplated this milestone, I realized it is time for me to focus on making memories of a more personal nature, such as spending time with my son and his new wife, and traveling with Dave, my husband, and family. With this in mind, I have decided to retire at the end of the year. I feel so fortunate to have devoted my professional life to a business that helps families mark life’s special occasions, and I look forward to being fully involved throughout the remainder of the season.

Many key people at The Casual Gourmet—my sister Mary, our director of catering; Phil, our executive chef; Marcy, our head baker; and Joao our head steward—have been here for many years and are also ready for their next chapter. Rather than risk the reputation for excellence that we have worked so hard to build, I have made the decision to close The Casual Gourmet in October. The business began with me, and it feels fitting that it will also end with me.
