August is a wild and crazy month here on Cape Cod! Along with beautiful seaside weddings, August is the month when all the big fun fundraisers and parties take place.
August 2nd – Falmouth Hospital’s Summertime Gala. For the sixth consecutive year the Casual Gourmet was privileged to cater this fabulous event. The 2008 gala’s theme was “Out of Africa.” Almost 400 guests partook of Executive Chef Robert Smith’s African themed menu consisting of hors d’oeuvres and a sit-down dinner, followed by a live auction and dancing.
August 3rd – The 23rd Annual Pops by the Sea Concert in Hyannis. Casual Gourmet has been a part of this amazing summer celebration since it’s inception in 1986. This year Henry Winkler joined Keith Lockhart & the Boston Symphony Orchestra on the Hyannis Village Green. We supplied picnic food to the 1,500 VIP table guests and 15,000 of our friends joined us for a glorious concert.
August 9th – No fundraisers this weekend but lots of fun as Outermost Harbor Marine and Stage Harbor Yacht Club each had their annual summer bash! The two parties (each about 250 guests) were within walking distance of each other and a number of guests attended both events!
August 16th – How do you describe the Hooker’s Ball? It was our third year joining the Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fisherman’s Association in this Lollapalooza of a party! This year 700 folks attended and partied long into the night. The theme was Carnaval and our Brazilian themed food was a hit – from ceviche served from an ice block to churrasco presented on traditional Brazilian sabers to tapioca rechada just like you would find on the streets of Rio – YUM!
August 22nd – The Cape Cod Museum of Art’s annual Fine Arts Auction. CCMA is one of our favorite spots on Cape Cod. This was the third time that the auction has been held at the Museum and we have been privileged to cater it each time. After cocktails and hors d’oeuvres in the Museum over 200 supporters gathered in a lovely Undercover Tent on the lawn for dinner, followed by spirited bidding led by auctioneer Bob Eldred.
August 23rd – The Penikese School is a private school for adolescent boys located on Penikese Island off the coast of Woods Hole. Every two years a group of supporters holds a fundraiser in a spectacular spot on Penzance Point. This year they also chose Carnaval as a theme! 400 guests had a great time sipping caipirinhas, eating our Brazilian cuisine and partying with authentic Brazilian Carnaval dancers.
