With more than 550 miles of coastline and countless oceanfront hotels, it’s no surprise that waterfront wedding venues on Cape Cod garner so much attention. Yet the Cape is known nearly as much for its history as it is beaches – the Pilgrims stopped in Provincetown before moving onto Plymouth – and we boast several historic Cape Cod wedding venues with a deliciously beachy-vintage vibe. One of our favorites is the Osterville Historical Museum, and it was here that Matt and Mike hosted a swank summer soirée to celebrate their marriage.
After a traditional wedding ceremony overflowing with love and personal touches at Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, just a mile from the reception venue, the grooms gathered with their families to receive well wishes from loved ones and grab a handful of portraits with photographer Lane Caroline.
As their guests made their way to the Osterville Historical Museum, Mike and Matt took a few a minutes to swing by nearby Wianno Golf Club with Lane for some romantic photos and the chance to take a deep breath. After more than a year of planning – their wedding, originally planned for 2020, was postponed because of COVID – they were finally married!
The couple arrived at their reception, where guests were enjoying crisp summer wines and passed hors d’oeuvres, just as the light from the late-summer sun was beginning to soften. The venue’s historic buildings and flower-filled grounds, and a majestic white tent, were all bathed in the ethereal glow of an August evening on Cape Cod.
As the cocktail hour came to a close, guests moved into the tent, where a mix of farmhouse table and linen-clad round tables were arranged with lush greens and florals, and classic white place settings and pillar candles. The couple was announced into the tent, along with their very shy flower girl, where they were treated to heartfelt words of welcome and fond thoughts from family.
After cutting their cake, Mike and Matt took to the dance floor for a romantic first dance. Their parents soon joined them, with guests getting in on the fun just minutes later.
As the dancing continued, the grooms made sure their guests kept their energy up with a late-night round of sliders — one last thoughtful touch in a day that was absolutely brimming with them.
