Quirky cool? Beguiling boho? Laidback lux? Everything about Michelle and Evan’s wedding was so uniquely them, so unusual and unexpected, that the usual adjectives assigned to weddings don’t really describe their late-summer nuptials and reception at Highfield Hall & Gardens, a wedding venue on Cape Cod wedding steeped in history.
Let’s just call it outright awesome, shall we?
Michelle opted to keep things casual for her wedding dress; its cocktail-length was perfect for showing off her peep-toe slingbacks topped with bows. She carried a bouquet filled with flowers in saturated hues, which really popped against the white of her dress, as she came the aisle that was lined with floral arrangements of white and green.
As the couple’s friends and family gathered before the ceremony, they sipped fresh lemonade and iced tea that was beautifully presented on a rustic wooden cart. The youngest attendees entertained themselves with the fabric streamers Michelle and Will had thoughtfully provided.
With weather that was absolutely flawless for an outdoor ceremony, Michelle and Evan exchanged their vows in the West Garden under an arbor decorated with lush greenery and flowing white fabric panels. A vocalist accompanied by ukulele player added to the ethereal atmosphere.
With their “I dos” lovingly exchanged, Michelle and Evan spent a few minutes strolling among the lush gardens as photographer Lisa Neighbors grabbed a few casual portraits.
The cocktail hour, which took place on the venue’s wrap-around veranda and sprawling green lawn, kicked off with passed trays of the couple’s signature cocktails; fresh and fruity mojitos and Palomas.
As guests began to make their way to the tent where dinner was served, each couple picked up a box of ripe berries which served as both place card and favor. So fun!
Long, farmhouse tables were arranged under the tent but, in keeping with the couple’s “laidback lux” vibe, no two were exactly the same. Some were richly stained natural wood, others were painted. At each place setting was a hand-done menu complete with watercolor drawings. At every child’s place setting was a custom-made bendy straw with their name and a packet of crayons for coloring on the table’s kraft paper runner. So thoughtful!
Just as the sun sank from the picture-perfect summer sky, Michelle and Will and their guests moved into the sumptuous Stick-style mansion, the centerpiece of the Cape Cod wedding venue, for an evening of dancing.
