The warm waters surrounding Cape Cod make autumn a deliciously long, drawn-out season here. Balmy days filled with soft sunlight lead into evenings with just a hint of a chill making fall the perfect time for a Cape Cod wedding. As Eva and Brian exchanged vows early in October at Lighthouse Beach in Chatham, the sun was just beginning to set in a cobalt blue sky. Bouquets of peachy-hued roses and white hydrangeas arranged in Ball jars, suspended from shepherd’s hooks, flanked either side of the aisle and a yacht passing through the channel at just the right moment provided a bit of added beauty as the barefoot bride and groom exchanged “I do’s” in front their family and friends.
Following the ceremony, the couple took time to stroll along the beach with Melissa Mullen of Melissa Mullen Photography beautifully photographing each gorgeous moment. After posing for casual family portraits on the beach and in front Chatham Light, everyone moved on to Mill Pond Estate, also in Chatham, for a tented reception in the backyard which gently slopes down to the water.
A bucket of flip flops in an array of bright colors invited everyone to “Kick off your shoes and dance” and set a fun tone at the reception letting guests know they were in for a relaxing evening. Bud vases, each with a single peach rose and adorned with a bit of twine and vintage tags, served as rustic place cards showing guests to their tables under the crisp white tent. The tables – a mix of round and long rectangular – were topped with floor-length white linens and multiple centerpieces arranged in a variety of white-birch-covered vases, mini farm baskets and vintage Ball jars.
After the cocktail hour, which included a raw bar and New England clam chowder station in addition to passed hors d’oeuvres, a salad of mixed baby greens and roasted Chioggia beets finished with Parmigiano-Reggiano and port wine vinaigrette was served. A buffet dinner of several unique vegetarian choices – such as roasted beefsteak tomatoes with corn and millet stuffing, and vegetable paella – and panko and almond crusted haddock, sourced directly from Chatham, followed.
As afternoon morphed into evening, dozens of flickering candles cast a warm glow over Eva and Brian’s waterfront wedding reception. A cool ocean breeze and those thoughtfully-provided flip flops kept everyone on the dance floor; a perfect ending to a picture-perfect Cape Cod wedding.
