When two people who are absolutely beautiful – both inside and out – and have a stunning sense of style, tie the knot at a gorgeous waterfront home, one would expect great things. In the case of Jo and Adam’s Cape Cod wedding, one’s expectations would be met…big time.

To say that Jo, owner of La Porte Swim, and Adam, a corporate VP, lead busy lives is an understatement. Both work long hours and frequently travel for business. Yet when it came time for these two globetrotters to exchange their “I dos,” they didn’t opt for a destination wedding at an exotic locale. Home was very much where their hearts were; at Jo’s family’s summer house.

The shingled-sided home, weathered to that just-right shade of silver, served as a beautiful hub for the couple’s love-filled day.

The festive feel began early, as the couple was getting ready on either end of the house. While Adam and his groomsmen sipped Johnnie Walker Blue, Jo and her maids sipped Champagne. After slipping into a stunning sheathe-style wedding gown, Jo and her attendants quickly made their way down the dock – no peeking, Adam! – and boarded the family’s boat.

The leisurely cruise around the harbor allowed guests to gather for the ceremony with Jo safely out of sight, as she and her maids had a final toast.

This big day called for an equally big entrance and, after tying up back at the family’s deep-water dock, Jo followed her maids up the best Cape Cod wedding “aisle” ever on the arm of her dapper father, as the sounds of a string quartet drifted across the water.

Jo and Adam exchanged their vows on the gently sloped back lawn of the family home; the harbor provided a glorious backdrop as the late-afternoon sun bathed everything in soft, ethereal light.

An oversized sailcloth tent had been arranged at the water’s edge for the reception. Linen-clad tables and fruitwood Chivari chairs continued the upscale-yet-understated tone already established by Jo’s virtually unadorned gown and the bridesmaids’ fun yellow floral frocks.

Dramatic white anemones and fresh greens adorned the tables. China with gilt edges and bright flowers added a vintage touch. At each place setting, a menu card, also in gilt, and sprig of lavender were tucked into a crisp white linen napkin. A sweet favor rested nearby. A tower of buttercream frosted cupcakes in three flavors would provide another sweet touch later in the evening.

Before making their entrance into the reception as a new mister and missus, Jo got into “dance mode” by removing the mantilla she’d worn for the ceremony.

As twilight morphed into evening, the beaming bride and groom were all smiles as they savored the heartfelt speeches of friends and family. Following a sit-down dinner, the stage was set for dancing the night away, and a sprinkler sendoff.
